Self-Directed Job Search

Workshop Description:The Self Directed Job Search is not a workshop.  It is an independent job search activity where participants join in the R&I area and work on their own. Participants are free to work on their own schedule.

  • It’s Self-Directed services for clients who are looking for a job in an independent manner but just require the resources to do so

  • Career planning tools to help you determine the best career for you

  • Tip sheets relating to topics such as job search, networking, résumés, cover letters, interviews

  • Internet access to search online for potential employers and job opportunities

Workshop Description The ServSafe workshop is for people who work in the hospitality industry. Slips, Trips and Fall Prevention

Workshop Description

  • Course length 30 minutes

  • Certificates are issued upon completion

  • Available in French

Every workplace will have things in it that could cause a worker to slip trip or fall.  Having a good understanding of the things that cause workers to slip or fall will help you prevent a serious injury. During this course you will have a good understanding of:

  • Applicable legislation and regulations

  • The duties of the employer, supervisor, worker and the safety rep to prevent slips and falls.

  • The definitions of slips, trips and falls

  • The three different types of falls

Workshop Description Smart Serve is for people who work or volunteer in an environment in which alcoholic beverages are served. The workshop helps people to develop proactive approaches to preventing alcohol-related problems, to recognize signs of intoxication and to implement intervention strategies for aggressive customers. Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Session

Workshop Description:  This is a video based training session. The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) gives employers and workers information about the hazardous products or chemicals they may be exposed to at work. Employers must pass the information about workplace hazardous products on to their employees and provide worker education programs to reduce workplace injuries and illnesses. This course will teach you all the requirements of WHMIS to keep you safe. Target Audience

  • Anyone who works with hazardous products.

Workplace Health and Safety Training

Workshop Description:  Workplace Health and Safety Training is designed to introduce employees to the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA). This training program is focused on the health and safety rights and responsibilities of workers, supervisors and employers and is a general introduction to workplace health and safety. This course was developed by the Ministry of Labour. The topics covered are in 4 steps:

  • Get in the know

  • Get involved

  • Get  more help

Workplace Safety Inspections

Workshop Description

  • Course Length 40 to 50 minutes

  • Certificates are issued upon completion

  • Available in French

Every worker has a responsibility to inspect their workplace for hazards. If you are a health and safety representative or a supervisor, you have more responsibilities to inspect your workplace. This course will cover the following topics;

  • Learn about the different types of inspections

  • Responsibilities of the employer, supervisor, worker and the safety representative as they would apply to inspections

  • Legislation that would apply to Ontario workplaces

  • Learn how to prepare for an inspection

  • Become familiar with “conducting” a workplace inspection

  • Understand the recording process

  • Become familiar with preparing recommendations

  • Learn the value of follow-up and monitoring
